If your wallpaper is in decent shape and you do not want to go through the hassle of removing it, painting over the wallpaper is a very good alternative.
6. If you are left with stubborn glue residue take your sandpaper and sand it away. You can start with a rougher grit sandpaper and as the glue is dissolved use a finer grit sandpaper. Prepare to use several sheets of sandpaper because the glue will begin to cling to the sandpaper and lessen its effectiveness.
Then what you do is grab your trusty utility knife, pull up a corner and then try and peel the wallpaper down with your hands in exactly the same way as I've explained above.
